POETRY CORNER

Poetry has often brought me solace and consoled me when things seemed dark.  I have added some of favorites as well as some of my own words to this page.  I pray the words bring peace, comfort and encouragement to you as they have for me over the years.

The Best Me

by

Reneé Lacey Wharton

I will never be the best me if I’m only trying to be who you think I SHOULD be.

I don’t apologize that my ideas don’t line up with yours.  I don’t apologize for being free to live beyond your boundaries. I don’t apologize for loving me enough to walk away.  I don’t apologize for the freedom of living a bit selfishly; doing the things that I want, when I want, and how I want.  I don’t apologize for being hungry enough to go after it, no matter WHAT it is. I only apologize that I didn’t do it sooner.

I finally realize that I can only be who God created me to be.  I can only flourish when I embrace the me that has been hiding deep down inside. The me he made me to be before he formed me in my mother's womb.

I can only soar when I learn to accept the winds that blow as strength for my flight.  I can only succeed when I learn to be me, flawed and flourishing. I can only succeed when I learn to embrace my journey and all that has defined me along the way; confidence and timidity, strength and vulnerability, wisdom and ignorance.  All things needed to birth the beautifully imperfect mess that I have grown to love! Me!

Our Deepest Fear
by

Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
